The Veterans Service Commission provides these services:
Emergency financial assistance to eligible veterans and family members who have demonstrated a need.
Emergency Financial Assistance:
Financial Assistance within the Veterans Service Commission provides short-term basic living needs to eligible veterans, spouses, dependent children and widows on an emergency basis. These benefits may include:
  • Assistance with Utility bills
  • Food orders
  • Each case if reviewed by the Board on individual basis.
Transportation:
  • Provide transportation to and from VA medical facilities, Canton Clinic, Brecksville VA, and Wade Park VA

  • Present a photo ID of yourself
  • Proof of residency
  • Proof of household income
  • Copies of all current monthly bills
  • Landlord statement, if applicable
  • Proof of Social Security Number; Veteran/Spouse/Dependent children
Benefits, Compensation, or Pension
  • DD214 (or equivalent)
  • Proof of household income
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Divorce Certificate (of all past marriages; veteran and spouse)
  • Birth Certificate (s)
  • Death Certificate; veteran/spouse
  • Proof of Social Security Number; Veteran/Spouse/Dependent children
Applying for Benefits:
Assistance when dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Veteran Service Office represents and assists veterans, spouses, dependent children, surviving widows, and parents of deceased veterans entitled to D.I.C., when they apply to the VA for benefits.
Military Discharges, Medals, and other Military Records:

The Veterans Service Commission will assist veterans in obtaining their Military Discharge, Medals, and other Military Records

American Legion Post # 428: meets the 1st Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
Disabled America Veterans Chapter # 85: meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3301: meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
VFW Ladies Aux.: meets the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
40 & 8 Promenade: meets the 3rd Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
